Objectives

Coal mined in mines and in open-cut mines is far from the purest coal. The extracted rock contains a lot of impurities that reduce the quality characteristics of the mineral. Coal in its original form is unsuitable for further use, therefore it must be separated from unnecessary mineral components in the rock mass.

The separation process has long been called enrichment — it takes place in several stages and in a variety of ways.

Coal miners resort to a lot of methods directly for enrichment. Some of them are quite simple: for example, manual sorting, but there are also methods that require special equipment.

Flotation

The flotation method is based on the property of mineral particles: being in water, they stick to the surface of air bubbles. Special machines (pneumatic, mechanical or mechano-pneumatic) are used to enrich coal by this method.

Pulp is loaded into the device, through which it passes air bubbles – only coal grains stick to them. The resulting foam product rushes to the surface of the mixture and forms a layer of mineral foam

on it, which is sent to the concentrate.

The effectiveness of the flotation method is increased by reagents. These can be refined petroleum products (kerosene, salt oil, oil) or products of coal processing itself (phenols, anthracene oil, crude benzene).


Flotation column

For enriching coals of fine grades with a fineness of less than 0.6 mm. They belong to the category of pneumatic machines.

Flotation columns occupy a minimum of production space, require significantly lower capital and operating costs compared to mechanical flotation machines of the same performance. Other advantages of flotation columns are the absence of moving parts, a large height of the foam layer (1-2 m), ease of control and automation, high reliability and durability.

They are available in various sizes with a diameter of up to 5 m and a height of up to 16 m.

In addition to individual columns, it is possible to supply a complete flotation unit, including the flotation columns themselves, a reagent dosing unit and an automatic remote monitoring and control system for the operation of the flotation unit.

Gravitational enrichment

The gravitational method of coal enrichment is based on its different density and speed of movement in an air or water environment.

The so-called wet enrichment process can be carried out on concentration tables, in heavy environments, washing troughs, hydrocyclones or by means of jigging on special machines.


Jigging machines have become widespread. They divide the coal mixture into particles with different densities by means of ascending and descending streams of water moving in them at different speeds. Jigging is used both for small coals (12-0.5 mm) and for large ones (10-12 mm). This method of enrichment is more effective than other wet methods, but with the exception of enrichment in heavy liquids.

Concentrates obtained as a result of wet enrichment contain a lot of water, so they are necessarily subjected to dehydration.

The dry enrichment method separates coal in the air using other equipment - dry trays, pneumatic separators or machines.

For the enrichment of coal with a grain size from 0.5 to 75 mm in a magnetite suspension.

They are supplied in various sizes of different modifications with a nominal capacity from 50 to 400 t/h for the initial coal and from 160 to 1320 m3/h for the initial pulp.

The control of bed thickness, air pulsations and a number of other important parameters is fully automated, which ensures ease of control of the enrichment process and its high efficiency. At the same time, air pulsations are of a complex nonlinear nature, which makes it possible to expand the range of fineness of the enriched coal and significantly increase the efficiency of separation of small fractions.

Machines of two standard sizes:

- single-chamber, with a capacity of 50 t/h for coal enrichment of 6-50 mm (40 t/h when working on a class of -6 mm);

- double-deck, with a capacity of 100 t/h for coal enrichment of 6-50 mm (80 t/h when working on a class of -6 mm).

SPIRAL SEPARATORS


Spiral separators

For enrichment of fine grades of coal with a grain size from 40 microns to 3 mm.

Due to their simplicity, efficiency, reliability and high productivity, they are widely used and used in hundreds of processing plants around the world.

They are supplied in various designs and block versions: four- and seven-turn; with one-, two-, three-way spirals; up to 10 units. in a unit with a common power distributor and a food removal system. It is used mainly for the enrichment of granular (0.15-3.0 mm) and fine sludge (0.04-0.15 mm). They provide separation of sludge at densities of 1.55-2.0 t/m3. The productivity of one spiral is from 0.5 to 9.0 t/h, depending on the size of the sludge.
